Chorsu Bazaar in Tashkent, shown as an illustration of a Tashkent bazaar

Alay Bazaar is described as one of Tashkent's oldest marketplaces, believed to date to the 12th or 13th century. It began as a trading spot on the route from East Turkestan to the Fergana Valley, known for its cattle trade, and by the 19th century was a full bazaar linking the old town with the districts developed in the Russian era. Today it sells fruit and eastern delicacies, many other goods, a flea market and a two-storey jewellery complex with silver and gold items.
