Altyn Asyr Bazaar in Ashgabat

Altyn Asyr (also called Tolkuchka) is the largest market in Turkmenistan, covering 154 hectares with 2,155 shops and a tall clock tower at its centre. Built to resemble a carpet ornament from Ahal Province, it opened in its current form on 15 February 2011 and grew from a Soviet-era flea market. Goods include Turkmen carpets, textiles and jewelry, fresh produce, spices and household items, and livestock including camels are traded here, a long-standing Turkmen tradition.

There are cafes and bistros on site. Opening days and hours are not given in our sources, so check locally before you go. Coordinates are approximate.
