Handicrafts at Ubud Art Market, Bali

The Ubud Art Market, known locally as Pasar Seni Ubud, sits in the middle of Ubud on Jalan Raya Ubud, directly across from the Puri Saren Ubud royal palace. It is Bali's most famous craft market and a standard stop for anyone visiting Ubud.

What to expect

A warren of stalls spread over two storeys sells sarongs, batik fabric, woven rattan and ata bags, wood carvings, paintings, silver jewelry and souvenirs. Much of what is sold today is imported or mass-produced, so look for stalls that sell genuine handmade pieces if that matters to you. Parts of the market have been rebuilt in recent years, so the layout may change.

Visitor tips

  • Hours vary by stall; roughly 8 AM to 6 PM is typical, with the official window around 9 AM to 5 PM.
  • Go early in the morning for cooler weather and better bargaining.
  • Haggle politely; the first price is rarely the final one.
  • Entry is free, and there are many cafes and restaurants along Jalan Raya Ubud for a break.
