The Dambulla Dedicated Economic Centre is Sri Lanka's largest wholesale market for fruit and vegetables, built around three large hangars. A 2014 report put the volume at over 200,000 kg a day, roughly 70% of the country's fruit and vegetable needs, so the figures today may differ.

Produce arrives during the day from across the island, and buyers come at night to make their selections, so the centre has been described as a market that never sleeps. Beets, leeks, potatoes, gourds, avocados and green chillies are among the produce moving through. Construction began in 1996.

This is a working wholesale market rather than a tourist market, so visit with respect for the traders. Exact coordinates are approximate.
