Dounan in Kunming is described as China's largest flower wholesale centre, the largest cut-flower trading market in Asia and second largest in the world. It covers more than 60,000 square metres and sends out over 6 million cut flowers a day, including roses, gerberas, baby's breath and carnations, to 50-plus countries and regions. By day the market sells retail to tourists and individual buyers; from about 4:30pm to 8:30pm it switches to bulk wholesale, focused on roses, lilies and a few other main varieties. A separate flower auction centre runs around 1pm to 6pm. A large bunch of roses can cost around 15 yuan. Photo shows the Dounan electronic trading centre and is illustrative.
