Burns Road Food Street (Karachi)
Karachi's oldest food street: nihari, haleem, biryani, dahi baray and jalebi on a short colonial-era street.
Burns Road is Karachi's historic food street, a roughly 200-metre stretch lined with colonial-era buildings and food stalls. It is named after James Burnes, a British doctor who served in Sindh in the early 19th century. A 2021 Arab News report names Fresco's dahi baray, Food Center's biryani, Agha's sajji, Mazedar's haleem, Waheed's nihari and Delhi's gola kabab, plus traditional desserts, sweet milks and ice cream, with vendors frying jalebi on the street.
The street was closed to vehicles and renovated as a formal food street, with traffic stopped from about 7 PM, running from Fresco Chowk to the Fatima Jinnah Women's College. Shop opening hours were not given in that report, and details may have changed since 2021, so check locally. Go in the evening when the street is closed to cars.
