A 1,450 m cobbled pedestrian street in Harbin, built by Russians in 1898 and lined with historic European-style buildings.
Central Street (Zhongyang Dajie) is a pedestrian street in central Harbin, about 1,450 metres long and the only cobbled street in the city. Russian builders laid it in 1898, and by the 1920s it was an international street of more than 100 shops, home to Russians, Jews, Chinese, Japanese and others. Its buildings mix Baroque, Renaissance and modern styles, and it has been listed for preservation since 1986. Shops, cafes and street vendors line the street. Opening hours vary by shop.
