Crowds at Fengjia Night Market, Taichung

Fengjia Night Market is the largest night market in Taichung and one of the biggest in Taiwan. It stretches along the streets next to Feng Chia University in Xitun District and is known as a place where new street food trends begin.

What to expect

Hundreds of stalls fill the roads, selling food, clothing, accessories and phone gear. Student creativity keeps the menu inventive, and it is common to see long queues for viral snacks. It is crowded, especially on weekends.

What to eat

Cheese potatoes, giant fried chicken cutlets, grilled sausages, takoyaki, shaved ice and fruit teas are all popular. Taichung is also the home of bubble tea, so a milk tea is a natural stop.

Visitor tips

  • Go on a weekday evening to avoid the heaviest crowds.
  • Bring cash for smaller stalls.
  • Getting there: take a bus or taxi from Taichung Station (about 25 to 40 minutes).
  • Hours vary by stall, so check before you go.
