Stalls at the Garden Night Market, Tainan

Garden Night Market (also called the Tainan Flower Night Market) is the biggest night market in southern Taiwan. Unlike Taipei's daily markets, it runs only a few nights each week, which concentrates the crowds and makes it feel like an event.

What to expect

Hundreds of stalls fill a large open site, offering street food, clothing, accessories, toys and carnival-style games such as ring toss and shooting. It is spacious but still very busy, and it is a popular outing for local families.

What to eat

Grilled squid, fried chicken, Taiwanese sausages, oyster omelets, steak and shaved ice are common picks.

Visitor tips

  • The market usually operates on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays in the evening. Confirm days before you go, as schedules can change.
  • Getting there: it is out of the central city, so a taxi or ride-hailing car is easiest.
  • Bring cash.
