Huaxi Street Night Market, nicknamed Snake Alley, is one of Taipei's oldest tourist night markets. It sits in the historic Wanhua district, a short walk from Longshan Temple, and runs along a covered pedestrian street with an ornate gate at the entrance.

What to expect

The street is lined with seafood restaurants, small eateries, shops selling Chinese herbal tonics, and a few stalls known for snake soup and snake-based dishes, which gave the market its nickname. Today most visitors come for the atmosphere and for ordinary Taiwanese dishes rather than the exotic menu.

What to eat

Look for braised pork rice, seafood stir-fries, oyster omelets, herbal soups and fresh fruit. Snake soup is available if you are curious.
