New Road is one of Kathmandu's busiest shopping streets, running through the city centre toward the Seto Ganesh temple gate. Travel guides list jewellery, clothing and electronics, with bargaining expected, and a Kathmandu street food guide names New Road for chatpate (a puffed-rice chaat with noodles and spices), pani puri and spicy aloo chop.
A travel guide gives hours of about 8 AM to 8 PM daily, though this is not confirmed recently. The street is crowded in the afternoon, so go mid-morning for easier browsing and stop at a busy snack stall with plenty of customers.
