Shennong Street (Tainan)
A few-hundred-metre lane of Qing and Japanese-era shophouses in Tainan, now home to craft shops, studios, cafes and bars, glowing after sunset.
Shennong Street is a short lane of narrow two-storey historic shophouses, many dating to the late Qing and Japanese colonial periods. Today they hold cultural-creative and souvenir shops with handmade goods, artist studios, cafes, teahouses, bars and eateries, with a few homestays.
Jinhua Temple and Yaowang Temple, both city-designated historic sites, stand along the street. It is especially atmospheric after sunset, when retro-style lamps give it a glowing look.
