Shibuya Yokocho
An indoor food alley of about 20 izakayas and eateries in Miyashita Park, serving regional Japanese dishes from Hokkaido to Okinawa a few minutes from Shibuya Station.
Shibuya Yokocho is a lively indoor food alley on the south side of the first floor of Rayard Miyashita Park, a short walk from Shibuya Station. The 100-metre alley is modelled on the traditional yokocho (backstreet) of small izakayas and eateries, and it brings regional Japanese cooking from across the country together in one place.
What to expect
Around 20 restaurants sit side by side, each with a menu that reflects a different region, from Hokkaido salmon to Okinawan goya champuru. The mood is casual and festive, with shared seating, evening drinks and the occasional night when the alley hosts guest DJs and entertainers. It works well for groups who want to try several cuisines in one stop.
What to eat
Expect comfort food such as ramen, gyoza and yakitori, plus specialities like chanko-nabe, the hearty stew eaten by sumo wrestlers, served at a restaurant run by former wrestlers.
