Tenmonkan Shopping Arcade (Kagoshima)
Kagoshima's downtown covered arcade and food district, known as the home of shirokuma shaved ice.
Tenmonkan is Kagoshima's biggest downtown district, built around the covered Tenmonkan Hondori arcade, which keeps shoppers dry in rain and when ash falls from Sakurajima. North of the tram line it is mostly shops; to the south it turns to restaurants and izakaya. Look for Satsuma specialties such as satsuma-age fish cake, kasutera sponge cake, shirokuma shaved ice and Satsuma shochu. It is about two minutes on foot from the Tenmonkan-dori tram stop.
