Vigan Empanadahan (Plaza Burgos)
A strip of food stalls on Plaza Burgos frying Vigan's famous orange empanada and okoy next to the heritage district.
The empanadahan is a row of food stalls on Plaza Burgos (Jacinto Street) in Vigan City, a short walk from the cathedral, Plaza Salcedo and Calle Crisologo. Cooks fry Vigan empanada to order: a crisp orange rice-flour shell filled with shredded green papaya, longganisa sausage and egg. Okoy, crunchy shrimp fritters, is the other staple.
Both are eaten with the local sugarcane vinegar, seasoned with onion and black pepper. A 2022 article listed the stalls as open daily from about 8 AM to 9 PM with empanada from around P40, so confirm hours and prices on arrival.
The Plaza Salcedo dancing fountain show is nearby in the evening, so you can eat and then watch.
