Chowk Yadgar and Peshawar Old City Bazaars
A landmark square in Peshawar's old city ringed by trading streets, including a jewellers' street and a shawl bazaar.
Chowk Yadgar, once called Hastings Memorial, is a landmark square in Peshawar's old walled city. The first dome-shaped monument here was put up in 1883, and the monument now commemorates the victims of the 1930 Qissa Khwani Bazaar massacre.
Several trading streets meet at the square: Jewelers Street (Ander Shehr Street) runs west to it, Bazar-e-Abresham Garan, a shawl market, lies to the south, and the busy trading area of Ashraf Road is to the north. The Ghanta Ghar clock tower is to the east. The square is also known as a centre of hawala business.
It pairs with Qissa Khwani Bazaar and Namak Mandi.
