Garak Market
Korea's biggest wholesale market for fish, fruit, vegetables and meat, in Songpa District. A working wholesale site rather than a tourist market.
Garak Market, founded in 1985, is described as the nation's biggest wholesale market for fish, fruit, vegetables and meat. It covers about 0.54 square kilometres and handles about 7,600 tons of goods a day. About 90% of its sales go to wholesalers and retailers, and it supplies about half of the agro-fishery goods Seoul residents eat daily.
Hundreds of auctions take place each day, run by about 100 auctioneers, and only intermediary wholesalers may attend them. Volumes rise before holidays such as Chuseok and Lunar New Year.
Good to know: The auctions are closed to the public. Hours were not verified, so check locally. For a visitor-friendly seafood market, see Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market.
