Sinpo International Market in Incheon's old downtown grew from vegetable stalls after the port opened in the late 1800s and is known as Incheon's first modern permanent market. Today it is best known for fried chicken and dumplings, and sits near Incheon Chinatown and the port.

What to expect

Two main alleys with smaller connecting lanes, old shops, a tailoring alley and snack stalls. Lines form at the famous chicken shops, so allow time.

What to eat

Sinpo dakgangjeong (crispy chicken in a sweet-spicy sauce with peanuts), five-colour dumplings, handmade fish cake, red bean porridge and the hollow Chinese-style pancake called gongal-ppang. The market is also linked to the origin of jjolmyeon noodles.

Visitor tips

  • Shop hours vary, and it is busiest on weekend afternoons.
  • Pair it with Chinatown and Jemulpo Port, both a short walk away.
