Kitakyushu's well-known covered food market beside Kokura's Uomachi arcade, trading through a rebuild.
Tanga Market is a traditional market in Kokura, Kitakyushu, at the northern end of the Uomachi Gintengai covered arcade. Two big fires in April and August 2022 badly damaged it. A temporary area, Tanga Aozora Market, opened next to the site in April 2023, and the city reports that the market and the temporary area are trading normally outside the construction zones. A new four-storey building is planned to open within fiscal 2026, so check what is open before you go. Pair it with a walk along Uomachi Gintengai, the covered arcade of local shops, restaurants and cafes that leads from Kokura Station.
