Taipei's youth-culture district: pedestrian streets, cinema lanes, street performers and snack stalls that stay busy well into the night.

A lit alley in Ximending, Taipei

Ximending is Taipei's long-running hub for fashion, film and street snacks. Part of the district is a pedestrian zone, so you can wander between shops, arcades and food stalls without traffic.

What to expect

The action is on the walking streets around the Red House and Wuchang Street. Weekend afternoons bring buskers and crowds; weeknights are calmer. It is more a shopping and snacking district than a classic stall-lined night market.

What to eat

Try the thick, savoury rice-noodle soup Ay-Chung is known for, giant fried chicken cutlets, bubble tea and sweets from the small shops in the side alleys.

Visitor tips

  • Exit 6 of Ximen Station puts you in the middle of it.
  • Shops open later on weekdays, so come after 6 PM for the full atmosphere.
  • Pair it with Huaxi and Guangzhou Street night markets, a short walk away.
