Mehrgon Bazaar (Dushanbe)
Dushanbe's main covered bazaar, with dried apricots, kurut, plov ingredients and tandoor flatbread. Open daily.
Mehrgon, opened in 2014 in a marble-and-columns building, replaced Shohmansur as the city's main market. It sells seasonal produce, dried fruit, nuts, spices, honey with black cumin, tea, lamb and horse meat, and dairy such as chakka and kurut.
Try dried apricots from Isfara, giant tandoor flatbreads, and kurutob (kurut, bread and vegetables). Street stalls outside serve samsa and shashlik.
It is open daily from morning to evening; mornings are busiest with the widest choice.
Tips: Vendors offer samples, and bargaining is expected. Coordinates are approximate.
